Turtle Wax T-529 Label & Sticker Remover

One of my middle-aged bikes still has it's magic, but a couple stickers were put on above the clearcoat and were showing some wear. I had some challenges with taking off the Triumph break-in stickers before and was considering Goo Gone until I stumbled across an alternative from Turtle Wax called Label and Sticker Remover:

It usually takes some patience to get a sticker off, but the real challenge comes when you're figuring out what to do with the adhesive left behind - along with the mess that it causes. Shake the can well, spray on a decent amount, and wait a minute or two. It took a couple applications, but the painted surface was squeaky-clean afterward. I was so thrilled that I had the family come out and take a look (after I ran it over to the local car wash). Your wife and kids may not feel the same as you, but regardless this is great stuff!

Ok, off the thrillbox now

Motorcycle Safety Foundation Guide To Group Riding

I cut my teeth in an MSF Basic Rider Safety Course, and picked up my first motorcycle a week after. Haven't taken an advanced course since, but still respect what they preach. Now that the heat is starting to back off, here is something I found regarding group rides:

Updates On Tmf

Just an update on what is going on.

TriumphMotorcycleForums.Com underwent a major system migration this last weekend. Many improvements have come about in the online-forum world, as well as changes in how riders access sites like this. As a result, I felt that a simpler approach was warranted. The new system is much easier to use than the previous.

The changes aren't done, as I plan to put some soul back into the look of the site. Things like the chat and member directory work the same. The Photo Gallery and Forums have undergone many changes; but they are simple enough to figure out.

I've also put the TMF twitter and facebook pages back for everyone to access. They are both updated as this site receives posts.

The notification features will work within the mobile application again; but that is still specifically for iPhone devices. Android devices will see the traditional blue/white colors until I get the black-colored system updated.

Member Map Menu Item Relocated

I've been noticing more often that the number of menu items at the top of this site is greater than what most resolutions will allow without forcing the "More" link out of place. It's been happening on my widescreen laptop, a friends computer, and then I saw it on a widescreen TV using a Google TV Media Player earlier today and felt that a change was needed.

So it's now relocated in the "More" menu. The URL is the same:

Private Message Advertising Concerns

As many folks know, I'm an active partner to many advertisers. Over the years, I've developed a sophisticated platform for supporting advertisers and providing value to users of my sites.

However, there has been a recent trend to push Pop-Up Ads and Private Message Ads onto users. In my opinion that is over the top, representing an extreme practice.

The Motorcycle Industry, and interest in general, is much lower than what it was over the last decade. That is a harsh reality of this business, but there are creative ways to add value to Triumph Motorcycle Enthusiasts and still support the businesses that are committed to making things work. We shouldn't have to resort to such tactics.

Keeping Your Leathers Dry

While I don't always exhibit the symptoms, I suffer from major allergies. While the war on my immune system is being won against the odds, my original allergist (who is now retired and never rode a motorcycle) made these points to me:

Avoid poor quality materials. Especially those that bleed colors or give off odors in heat. Invest in good-quality leathers and textiles.

Keep your leathers clean, but go easy on the cleaners and chemicals.

Gloves can last a while, but regardless of their expense discard them when they are worn or require excessive chemicals to clean.

Store all leathers, including glove, in a ventilated closet. It doesn't have to be "open" but air should be able to circulate.

Keep boots upright on the floor or open shelf.

If gloves must be stacked, store them fingers-down - but they should be hung

Keep jackets, jeans, and other gear on appropriate hangers. Never leave them lying down or stacked.

After a ride, hang all gear outside your closet for 24 Hours to allow them to dry.

Some leather products, especially those that place an emphasis on high quality, can produce mold and wear faster than artificial alternatives.

When you're on a multi-day ride, and wear the same gear every day, it is easy to just use your hotel room's hangers and strap/snap/velcro your gear to them for decent drying. For those who prefer to camp, a bit of sturdy cord strung between objects / tents / bikes can hold up your gear for drying.
